This study reconstructs and analyses Britian抯 foreign policy to Italy during Nyon Conference. The author concludes that Britian pursued the Appeasement of Italy that was mainly characterized by 揳lleviating Anglo-Italian relations?during the Nyon Conference. The dissertion includes three partsPart one expounds Britain抯 慛on-Intervention?policy to the Spanish Civil War. The policy in essence was the Appeasement of Italy . It constituted the background under which Britian pursued the Appeasement of Italy during the Nyon Conference.Part two mainly demonstrates the Appeasement of Italy charactered by 揳lleviating Anglo-Italy relations?which was pursued by Britian during the Nyon Conference. Before the conference , Britian restricted the discussion to 憈echnical?subjects designed to stop the attacks but not to identify the gulity party. Moreover, Britian also actively invited Italy to attend the conference. During the conference, Britian prevented any embarrassing anti-Italian outbursts and allowed Italy to escape punishment for the actions of her submarines. More important, she allocated a patrolling area in Tyrrhenean Sea for Italy . After the conference, Britian also brought Italy into the protrolling system by convening Anglo-French-Italian naval talk.Part three appraises Britain抯 policy. It illustrates that Britian?s Appeasement of Italy in the period of Nyon Conference was the continuation of Appeasement of Italy since the Italo-athiopian war and was practised under the framework of 揘on-Intervention?policy. Meanwhile, from the points of politics , armament and strategy, this part also explains the reasons why Britian pursued the Appeasement of Italy in the mid and late l930s.This dissertation puts the Nyon Conference under the background of British Appeasement of Italy in the mid and late 1930s, especially under the framework of 慛on-Intervention?policy that was carried out by Britain during the Spanish Civil War. This dissertion makes a deep and concrete research on Britain抯 policy to Italy in the period of Nyon Conference on the base of primary historical materials.
