Based on open questionaires, a questionaire is formed about the middle school students?view of gender roles. Inquires have been made to 471 students of six grades ( from Junior 1 to Senior 3) with the questionaire in order to reach an understanding of the characteristics and development of the middle school students?view of gender roles. The findings are as follows: 1. The questionaire , composed of male scale form and female scale form, has good reliability and validity. The factor analysis results in eight dimensions for the male scale form: feeling and affection, ability , will, leadership, career, moral character, sociability, initiative, and six dimensions for female scale form: ability and career, feeling and moral character, initiative, emotion, passive. 2. The features expected of males run in the following order: will, career, sociability leadership, ability, feeling and affection, moral character, initiative. The features expected of females go in such order as: feeling and moral character, sociability, ability and career, emotion, passive, initiative. 3. Middle school students?view of males?gender role shows a striking sexual difference in two dimensions.Girl students?feeling and affection factor gets more scores than that of boy students, while the initiative of boys scores much higher than that of girls. Middle school students?view of females?gender role shows a striking sextual difference in five dimensions. girl students score a good deal higher than boy students in ?? the dimensions of ability and career, sociability, initiative and emotion. boys score far higher than girls in the dimension of passive. Besides, the girl students of Junior 2 put emphasis on the feeling and moral character for females, while girls of Junior 3 attach more importance to the dimensions of feeling and moral character and siciability. boys of Senior 2 and 3 pay more attention to the female feeling and moral character than students of other grades. In comparison, girls of Junior grades give more attention to socialbility than their counterparts of Senior grades. 42\fiddle school students view of gender roles varies from grade to arade and shows fluctuation in its development. Junior third year students?view of gender roles appears lowest in some dimensions wheas Senior third students?view of gender roles comes lowest in other dimensions. 5. Middle school students?view of males?gender role shows little difference between students who do well academically and students who do poorly in their studies. Good students score much higher than poor students as to these dimensions of ability and career, feeling and moral character, emotion in their view of females?gender role. In the dimension of passive, poor students score far higher than good students.
