Our country has a vast territory, and various regions have different characters. So there are many different regional cultures in our nation. Regional culture exerts a great influence upon inditing poems, which is common view. In the Tang Dynasty, YangZhou occupied a very important position. It was the center city of the southeast and the biggest economic metropolis of the whole country. It is famed for its scenic spots, maritime commerce, and long history. Many famous poets were attracted by its charm and written considerable poems to give praises to YangZhou. This thesis takes poems about YangZhou written by Tang people as an object. Through analyzing these poems, we try to draw the outline of the development of Tang Poetry just from one side. And we want to find out the relation between the flourishing city and poets?feeling. There are three chapters in this thesis: In the first chapter, we separate these poems into two parts. In contrast with the early poems, the later poems are not only much more, but also have a tinge of secularism. In the second chapter, we analyse the content of these poems, including poems about YangZhou's prospect, economy, prostitutes, history and so on. In the end, we consider the rich and colorful urbanism, the fine and fluent style, the festive attitude and the particular imago as the cultural character of these poems.
