This dissertation believes that there is a endency not only of dvanc- ing or anti tradition, but also of acki ngup to tradition unconciously in Mu Dane s Poems. The former made his poems clearly; and the latter made them bear the marked brand of ative land The fusing and conflict between concious dvancing and unconcious acking was one of the reasons for the bandance of pains in Mu Dan, and caused some loss and confusion in his poetry writing to some extent. From the beginning, Mu Dans dvancing not only developed the sense of life and personality, but contained a strong sense of concerns about the nation and the urgent need for saving the nation. These intentions were mixed together in the image of east in Mu Dan s early poems. ero the ideal image of Personality in his mind, was strongly coloured with the moral personality of the Confucianism. From his desire for ature We can hear a drawn out and persisting echo of the old concept of onbina- tion of Heaven and Man in the poet s mind. The appearence of od in his poems displayed that Mu Dane s advancing had progressed onto the new transcend ential stage. Just at od Mu Dan encountered a violent conflict between the desire for transcendent and the concerns about realities. This desclosed the gene of traditional culture in his spiritual structure moreclearly. Mu Dan's starting point and terminaI were aIwaYs,at the mass in re-ality. He bear the desire for personality by "advancing" from the mass onone hand, and cherished the ressesive hope to "bake" up to the mass on theother hand. Therefore, he couldn' t maintain a cool and firm head for thesense of subject before the mass movements. In the ending part of this dis-sertation, it is pointed out that a "confusion"was hidden behind the "aban-dence"in Mu Dan's poems and that the situation was to some extent relatedto the .. l practical ration' cherished by Chinese intellectuals and the internalenthusiasm in concerning about the nation and the times" (by Wang Hui) inhis culture -- mentality structure.
