Unique as it was in the Middle East, the Palestinian nationalist movement originated from the Young Turkish revolution and the Arab nationalist movement. The Palestinian nationalist movement experienced three historical stages, namely, its preparation, emergence and completion. During the first period, the Palestinian nationalist participated in the Young Turkish revolution as Arab nationalist; In the second, they actively joined in the Damascus government led by Faysal and exerted an important influence; After Faysal's failure, the Palestinian nationalist movement separated from the Arab nationalist movement and thus came into being as an independent movement for its nationalism. In accordance with Palestinian different period in the Palestinian nationalist movement, the Palestinian consciousness of national identity also eyewitnessed its evolution from the South Syrian identity to the Palestinian's. On the former occasion, the Palestinians regarded themselves as a portion of Syria demanding integration with him to establish an unified country. On the latter, they identified themselves as very Palestinians and thus sought for an independent state of Palestine with self-goverment, the appearance of which represented the final formation of the Palestinian nationalist.The relationship between the Palestinian nationalist movement and the Palestinian national consciousness is interactive. The Palestinian nationalist movement evoked the consciousness of national identity in Palestinians, while the latter offered incessant driving force for their nationalist movement.
