During the Cbld War, the contention between USA and USSR in theCaribbean and Mid - American areas was, in essence, a contention betwan the twosuper - powers actual strength and ideology. It was an important part in their globe-wide contention. Consequently, it Played a critical role in the USA and USSR ColdWar. In this Paper, the author hanly analyzes the two super - power' policies inthese areas, so that a better Understanding about the essence of the contention can beobtained.The Mid - American Caribbean area is located between the North America andthe South America. This area has an important significance in USA's global strategy.As a result, almost every American Administration regarded this area as some sort ofa Forbidden Area, allowing no other external forces to interfere the regional affairs.However, after the victory of Cuban Revolution, the situation was changed. WithUSSR gradually penetrating its influence into the areas SurrOunding the CaribbeanSea, USA was no tlonger the only dominating power in this area. The Cuban MissileCrisis marked the beginning of the two opposing superpowers' contention in LatinAmerica. In the l970s, the tension was a bit relaxed. In order to take this good op-portunity to strengthen its influence in this area, USSR provided enormous economi-cal and military assistance to Cuba and Nicaragua, making the Mid - American situa-tion very unstable. Then in the l980s, USA began to carry out Presdent Regan's" push - back" policy.
