It is an important characteristic of preschool children?classification that children classify objects by their perceptual properties. This study examined the effects of training children?perceive ability, comparison ability, abstract and generalization ability on the development of 3-4 years olds?ability of classifying objects according to experimenter-named properties and ability of direct classification. Subjects are 129 3-4 years old kindergarten children. 69 Ss were allotted to training condition in which children's perceive ability, comparison ability, abstract and generalization ability being trained, while 60 Ss were allotted to control condition. The results reveal: (1) The training has significant positive effect on the development of 3-4 years olds?ability of classifying objects according to experimenter-named properties and ability of direct classification. (2) The measure of perceive-training has significant effect on the development of children?ability of classifying objects according to experimenter-named properties and ability of direct classification. The measure of abstract and generalization training has significant effect on the development of children?ability of direct classification. (3) The training has not significant positive effect on the development of children?intelligence. (4) The training has more positive effect on the development of low intelligence children? ability of classifying simple objects according to experimenter-named properties than middle and high intelligence children. (5) The training has same positive effect on the development of girls?and boys?ability of classifying objects according to experimenter-named properties and ability of direct classification.
