In recent years,lexical chunks have become a hot spot in second language acquisition.Lexical chunks have both vocabulary and grammatical features,and have a specific expression function.They can be stored and extracted as a whole and can improve the speed of understanding and the fluency of expression.This current study attempts to solve four problems:Firstly,whether the learners have a sense of lexical chunks in the process of reading,which lexical chunks are easy to be identified?Secondly,is there any gender difference in the learners'identification ability of lexical chunks?Thirdly,does the difficulty of reading materials influence the learners'identification ability of lexical chunks?Fourthly,is there a correlation between learners'identification ability of lexical chunks and reading ability?This research adopted both quantitative and qualitative approaches with a questionnaire,two tests and an interview.Before the tests,there will be a short training of the lexical chunks for the participants.All the data collected were put into the SPSS 17.0,then having data analysis of the result.Through experiments,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Learners have a sense of lexical chunks in reading,and the more identified lexical chunks are polywords and phrasal constraints.(2)For gender,the girls' identification ability of lexical chunks is more prominent than boys.(3)The difficulty of the reading material has a differentiated effect on the learners' identification ability of lexical chunks.The impact on the lower level learners is more obvious,and the impact on higher level learners is not obvious.(4)Learners' identification ability of lexical chunks is strongly related to reading ability.The more identification of lexical chunks,the better the reading ability,and it also shows that there exists differences between higher level and lower level learners in the identification ability of lexical chunks.
