The question of Righteousness and Benefit was one of the key points ofChinese ethics thinking history The thinkers of all generations have beenemphasizing the research about it On the basis of inheriting the last ?thinkers抰hought of Righteousness and Benefit , Wang Fuzhi gave a deepstudy on the theory of ancient debate between Righteousness and Benefit,and got a critic summary , which reflected the watch ?word of the time.His point of Righteousness and Benefit was a comprehensive and dialecticalanalysis about the traditional view of Righteousness and Benefit.On the basis of inheriting the [ast ?thinkers thought of Righteousnessand Benefit, Wang Fuzhi advanced 揜ighteousness is the base of humanand Benefit is the base of existence . If one pursuits Benefit without Righ-teousness , he is not deserved If one does not pursuit Benefit at all, he cannot live on. 揌e viewed the Righteousness as the essence of human exis-tence and the criterion of ethics . His evaluating model of 揜ighteousnessbeing right ; Benefit being false?inherited the key points of traditionalmorality.Wang Fuzhi believed that the Righteousness and the Benefit were im-poltant , united , independent, and they satisfied peopl&s social living to-gether . He expounded the dialectical unity of Righteousness and Benefit in??four respects. First: Righteousness was among Benefit . Ethics could notexist abstractly , separated from material living . Material Benefit had itsmoral justification . Second : Benefit was among Righteousness . Ethics it-self included Benefit, not excluding it The nature of ethics lay in the factthat it was benefit for humans living and developing . Third: Benefit was in-dependent of Righteousness . Benefit was the carrier of the effects of ethicson human being . Reason was in want, and Righteousness existed in Benefit?Ethics could not exist without Benefit Any ethics must express itselfthrough Benefit Forth : Benefit was independent of Righteousness . Materi-al Benefit could not break the restrain of ethics Ethics evolved from Benefitand became the criterion whether the Benefit was right or not Wang?di-alectical analysis about the relation between Righteousness and Benefit bothdenied asceticism ethics , and overcame the one ?side of utility.The difference of Wangs point from others was that he not only inherit-ed traditional thoughts , but also gave a dialectical analysis . He did notthink Righteousness , criterion for weighing ethics, was stationary , but hay-ing arrangements . There was one person~抯 loyalty ; one tin&s justice ; gen-eration& common duty ?. History itself is developing continuously , andevery respects of social living are complex , so the arrangements of its ethics?evaluating should be analyzed concretely , because the three levers ofRighteousness had each difference and concrete of time , matter and condi-tion according to their 揷ommon?degrees. Wang Fuzhi not only denied theabsolute of feudal ethics standard from social facts, but also pointed out thatethics criterion has relativity, and ethics ?evaluating had its objectivity andcomplexity , by deep theory analyzing He also discussed the relativity ofethics criterion with the view that ethics ?evaluating must accord to con-crete analysis principle.Wang Fuzhi stressed the conclusion , inherit and introspection on tradi-tional view of Righteousness and Benefit, being very philosophic Basing onthe base of tradition , injected by era spirit , his thought was the product ofreproducing and developing them .
