In strictly controlled conditions,by using two-alternative forced-choice task (2-AFC), this study examined the preference effect in short-term priming of Chinese word. The ami of pilot experiment was to test the appropriate time of target flash in short-term priming, then applied it to the experiment 1 and 2. Experiment 1(A) examined the relationship between word frequency and preference effect in the condition of passive priming. The result showed the preference effect in short-term priming of Chinese words. Subjects tended to select word that they had learned before. The frequency of word had significant influence on preference, preference effect was larger when the words were high frequency. Experiment 1(B) examined the preference effect on the condition of active priming and also found a significant preference effect. This result demonstrated that preference was a kind of pure implicit memory, which did not depend on processing level. Experiment 2 examined the preference in similar priming( association and semantic simi- larity). The result showed that semantic similarity were more helped on prime than association did.
