This article is a study of Zhao Shao-ang and Yang Shan-shen's art, as well as their relationship with the widespread of the art of painting of "Lingnan Schoofin Hong Kong.Fron these two painters'life story, art style,wayof art education,etc.,we try to show their course of revolution and development of Chinese paintings in the 20th.Century,which has not been explored by the Chinese art historian.First of all, with the opening of direct contact between the East and the West in the beginning of the 16th.Centurym,western art work,accompanide by trading and preaching activities, first appeared in Macau and Guangzhou. At the end of the 19th. Century, Guangzhou, being the place of origin of Chinese democratic capitalist class revolution, western factor is a catalyst of this cultural revolution. As the pioneer of'Lingnan School",Gao Jian-fu, Gao Qi-feng and Chen Shu-ren opposed pedantic imitation of antiques style and routine way of learning. Japanese paintings' skills (after "Bettmann's Reform) and western paintings were introduced, and "compromise between the East and the West" was used as a means of bringing reforms to traditional Chinese paintings, so as to create a new style of Chinese paintings,education as it's supplementary,spreading out new style of arts.Secondly, being the outstanding second generation of the "Lingnan School",Zhao and Yang were students of Gao Qi-feng or Gao Jian-fu. Through assiduous training, as well as further studies or working in Guangzhou, Sichuan Province or Japan, both take root in Hong Kong. Besides propagating the new style of painting of'Lingnan School", through their talents and efforts, they create their own unique style. In addition, what they have experienced from travel all over the world also leads to one's own creative space, introducing new elements to "Lingnan School". This inspires the current trend of modem Chinese paintings.Thirdly, although both Zhao and Yang started off from what China believe-the "six laws" and freehand aesthetic purport, mixing elements of Western aesthet-ics with Chinese paintings as a different and modem art, this article tries to prove.through comparison, the domainof art have existed the concept of'fusion of East and the West", advocating natural imitation, with more attention to sketch. In certain liveljt can reflect a sense If our era.Fourthly,this article also compiles information about the students of Zhao and Yang,that is widely spread all over the world.This enables us to make an average grading on "Lingnan School",as well as analyzing kand commenting the wide-spread and change of paintings of "Lingnan School"in Hong Kong,Taiwan,the United States,Canada and other Southeast Asia regions and countries in the late 20th.Centruy.
