The big family that consisted of several generations was an ideal family pattern in ancient China. The family numbers lived together , shared the property and food. They advocated righteousness and etiquette that reflected the features of traditional family.The big family originated from Han Dynasty, formed in the Wei & Jin Dynasty and developed in Tang & Song Dynasty .The big family in Tang & Song Dynasty formed on the rules of righteousness and filial piety in the clan. It was united by ties of consanguinity and marriage relationship and organized on the rule of sharing housing and property . The spirit of its organization was filial piety and fraternal duty.The big family survived natural and man-made calamity for years, especially the populace's big family could last longer in small-scale peasants economy. The economy, organization pattern and the administration of big family varied according to the social environment.The economy of big family and populace family had features in common, but it had its own features in administration and pattern. It resembled a small society in which people worked and consumed together. The existence of big family was influenced by outer environment and based on the consanguinity relation ship and the idea of conformity.When the contradictions such as the centripetal force of consanguinity, the disunite of the property, the scope and necessity of family were violent, the big family was threatened.The ties of consanguinity and filial piety and fraternal duty united the big family. But it was disintegrated by the drifted consanguinity and the decline of economy .
