This thesis expounds that the language of oil paintings is one of important features of oil painting works. To some extent, the variation in the language of arts will influence the way of visual observation and the way of thinking and life style. The whole process of transformation in the language of oil paintings is, in a sense, the process of their creation and development of painting arts, which has practical significance.Thereafter, several relevant elements are presented: they are shape, color, skills (media) and concepts of works. Furthermore, the variation in the language and its background of oil painting works from the Middle Age and the Renaissance are introduced from the perspective of western art history.Then the dissertation further explains the four basic important elements: shape, color, skills (media) and concept respectively. It focuses on the variations in the language of some representative oil paintings in the classical period and the 19th century and their influence on the 20th century western modern art. It attempts to explore the immanent regularity from the external variation in the language of oil paintings, hi addition, the author points out that the significance of the transformation in the language of oil paintings lies in that "art is one form of meaning and tasting" . To change oil painting language is a means that real things will attain their artistic goal and artists will resume their vitality.
