Xuxu is a unique writer in contemporary Chinese Literature. The heat wave of nationalism in the late 1930s strengthened the nation and excited a generation of Chinese writers among whom was Xuxu.As an intellectual interested in reforming society, he was also concerned with the meaning of life and what it is to be human. This led him in his later years to turn away from politics toward an exploration of the human psyche. His personal pursuit of the meaning of life and his artistic style were unique. He was influenced by Chinese classical literature, Taoism and Buddhism. The experience of studying in Western Countries led him to broaden his palette to include ideas of Christianity and contemporary psychology. Many of his literary works possess a strong sense of religion.Xuxu influenced by Taoism, Buddhism and Christianity inquires about human nature and the human mind from these points of view.My dissertation is divided into four parts. An introduction. The first part is autobiographical and supporting the idea of how Xuxu's early lonely life led him to his religious philosophy and ultimately influenced his literature. The second part I analyze the different religious ideas in his literary works. The Conclusion,The introduction explains why literature and religion can be linked and examines from my point of view that Xuxu's works contain religious ideas. The First Part is an examines Xuxu's life and religion inclination based on his life experiences, his psychology which includes his emotions, cultural and social experiences and the historical period of his time. The Second Part is a concrete analysis of the influence of the three religions, Taoism, Buddhism and Christianity giving examples of this in his work.In Conclusion I summarize the unique philosophic theory and conscious awareness in his works.
