Research On The Expression Of Homesickness In Chinese Contemporary Photography

“Nostalgia” is a very important element in traditional Chinese culture,because it is the significant way that people used to express their own emotions.There are more and more contemporary art photography works that contain this element,and it helps many artists to lead their art self-conscious in their work.In this thesis I will talk about the generation and the new meaning of nostalgia and how it been showing in the contemporary photography artwork as the consciousness of new environment.I will compare the photographers of different age groups and analyze them by using the method of field research and literature research.By doing so I want to discuss the self-conscious and creating consciousness of photographer,the spirit of photography and the developments of society.Hoping this research will become a reference to help other theory researcher or contemporary artist whose works are related to the feeling of nostalgia.The structure of this thesis is as followed: On first chapter,I will analysis the implication of nostalgia conscious;On second chapter,I will analysis the generation of nostalgia conscious and its expression characteristics in its initial stages;On third chapter,I will interpret the new meaning of nostalgia conscious in contemporary multicultural environment.And also I will use data and theoretical analysis,from“self-conscious”and“public awareness”two perspectives,to prove the phenomena of nostalgia conscious in the artworks of ten photographers,including Yizhong Ruan and Liping Huang.On fourth chapter,I will talk about “spiritual home” which means the expansion effect of the narrative nostalgia.I am trying to use this perspective to analysis the develop tendency of narrative nostalgia in today's multicultural circumstance.According to many research results we can know that: around 1990 ' s there are many Chinese photographer had conscious to moved their attention to society.Under this circumstance,the nostalgia conscious starts to sprout out and also start a stage of collective “nostalgia”.Around 2000,nostalgia conscious is transferring from “ traditional homesickness ” to“wandering in modern society”;with the development of self-conscious it is also developing to an ideology and forming many new meanings in contemporary photography.The expression and elaboration of “ nostalgia conscious” become more diversify.The artists are more and more independent and having more humanistic care awareness.A heavy component of dissonance isreturning to the essence of art and multiple symbolic perceptions of the world.More and more artist are seeking the ideology that behind the “nostalgia” from their spiritual perspective.The conclusion is that the nostalgia conscious in Chinese contemporary photography is a developmental concept.It is affect by both native language culture and growing environment.The developing progress of nostalgia conscious,start from “homesickness” to “wandering”and developing to spiritual self-consciousness,accompany with the development of society and the living circumstance of people.Nostalgia is not only in past tense but also has the feature of future tense,what happened in the past will also affect the decision in the future.Because the“Nostalgia” is existed in the subconsciousness of society,the ideology and conception of nostalgia that based on different person and different space will definitely reflect the situations of ego and the circumstance of society.Therefore,discuss and analysis nostalgia conscious in contemporary photography has practical significance.
