| The Korea War, which is the "Shooting War" in deed, is the biggest local war in the wars which broke out during the Cold War period. By the name of "the United Nation Army", the west countries played important effect, especially the United Kingdom, although the United States was the leader of the war all the time. The United Kingdom and the United States diverged in the cooperation period continuously, especially in the Washington meeting, which be convoked on December in 1950. The thesis states the background, course and outcome of the this session and analyses what the divergences were to explain the relationship of the United Kingdom and the United States of America, which was corresponding in the initial stages of the Korea War.The thesis composes four parts:The first chapter analyses the basic policies of the United Kingdom and the United States in the initial stages of the Korea War. After the eruption of the Korea War, Britain and the United States both thought the aggression of the North Korea must be prevented because it was incited by the Soviet Union, so they send the army to the Korea one after the other. At first, the aim of the United States was "make the Korea peninsula get back to the state before the war", but along with the evolvement of the war, they changed their aim, and decided to get across the 38th parallel to unify the whole Korea peninsula, so they opposed the project put forward by the United Kingdom that established the military buffer zone. The United Kingdom thought the act that they got across the 38th parallel maybe got the bad result that the China send army to the Korea too. Eventually, the opinion of the United Kingdom could not alter the action of the American army. The United Nation Army got across the 38th parallel, and then the China dispatched troops.The second chapter introduces the overture and preparation of the Washington conference. After China dispatched troops to the Korea, the posture of the United Nation Army took a sudden turn and became worse rapidly. The President Truman make a threat of sending the citybuster, which made the United Kingdom thought that the war was at the edge of enlarging the its area, so for the sake of his own advantage, the United Kingdom suggested hold the meeting assort with the stratagems and make the problem of the Korea by the politics measures. The United States also hoped that they could get hold of the understanding and approval of the United Kingdom.The third chapter embodies the course of the Washington meeting. The session last five days, they discussed about the defend keystones, what was the best method to settle the problem of the Korea, and the subject of China and Taiwan. The Britain hoped that the United States could yield on the subject of Taiwan and agree China to enter the United Nation, which made the problem of the Korea could be settled by the politics measures in theUnited Kingdom. But the United States persisted in considering that could not show the impression of weakness to China and make Taiwan dealed with by China.The forth chapter analyses the relationship of the two nations in the initial stages which was concurrence of divergences and harmony, the reasons of the divergences and the effect of the Washington meeting to eliminate the divergences. Because the United Kingdom and the United States differ in the aim of the war, the benefits in the Korea and the attitudes to the problem of China, there were a lot of divergences between them no matter emerges before the war or during the war in the interlocution in December.
