The Anglo-Japanese Alliance was a bilateral alliance between Britain and Japan, and was concluded in 1902,revised in 1905,and renewed in 1911,and abolished at the Washington Conference in 1921.The Anglo-Japanese Alliance treaty lasted for 20 years and not only had a great impact on the two contracting countries, but also on some countries of European and Northeast Asia. The Third Anglo-Japanese alliance occupies a special position in the development of Alliance, and can be regarded as a turning point. The tenth year(1911-1921)of the existence of the third Anglo-Japanese alliance can be regarded as a decade of Alliance in decline. There has been a full range of frictions in the relations between the two countries, and the scope covered by the alliance is not confined to the two countries and the Far East, but has been further expanded to the world. The investigation of the third Anglo-Japanese alliance not only helps to more deeply grasp the development of the relationship between Britain and Japan, but also helps deepen the study of the Far East's international pattern and even the world pattern. The thesis consists of five sections including the introduction and conclusion. The introduction explains the subject, the aim and the significance of research, the research status on this subject, and the methods adopted. The first chapter discusses the revision of the third Anglo-Japanese alliance, mainly including the background, process and influence of two countries. The second chapter deals with the development of the alliance in 1911-1914,discussing the Revolution of 1911 in China, the differences of interest between Britain and Japan in the Yangtze River Valley of China, and how the Alliance connected with the situation in Europe. The third chapter mainly analyzes the Anglo-Japanese alliance under the First World War,mainly dealing with how Japan's entering the war,twenty-one demands, how the American's participation in war,and discusses how the Alliance related to the war.The fourth chapter deals with the abolition of the third Anglo-Japanese alliance, mainly including how the post-war situation influenced the Alliance, the choice of continuance or abolition, the abolition of Alliance at the Washington Conference.
