As the youngest one of all art forms, film's research focus has shifted from playwright-director and script itself to audience, which is concurrent with the changing focus of world philosophy and art criticism. In some sense, nowadays acceptability of the film is becoming more and more important and complicated. Film is a popular art form, which is closely connected with audience. It can be said that the audiences are not only the film's appreciators but also investors. Art can only find its value among the audience. So the audience is vital for the development of film. Although it is a mechanical reproduction of reality, the film can arouse deeper and more vivid emotions in audience than reality. That is to say that film comes from life and is above life. Film audience's acceptance and response, which forms a very complex world, has become a very important dimension in film aesthetics.1. Theoretical description of Audience's aesthetic psychological processIn movie theory, it is believed that audiences are passive while watching a film. In other words, movie cannot alter audience's psychology, thus making audience the victims of ideology unconsciously., In fact, the audiences are by no means passive, they make active, emotional responses when they watch a film. These can be seen from the following aspects. 1) Perception Film's close-up shots and changeable positions can help audience to have a better understanding of what the film tries to convey to us. Audience's direct perception and personal understanding towards images of the films play a vital role in arousing imagination in film aesthetics. 2) Affect In some sense, the process of watching a narrative film is a process of invoking a kind of specific feeling. Association means thinking has directly entered human being's consciousness. During the process, characters, rhythms and meaning would stir something distinct which otherwise dormant in audience's memory. Imagination could produce more creative inspiration in a film. 4) Attention How to make better use of "attention" to arouse the audience's feeling has long been a much-debated topic in filmmaking. It is no wonder that some people think the process of watching a movie is the process of how to keep the audience concentrating on the film. 5) Participation Literary works can be considered as "the communication bridge" between artists and appreciators. Besides artist's efforts, active participation is very important in the construction of "the bridge". "Participation has two meanings, one is audience's understanding of images in the film; another is audience's spiritual or cultural identity acquired from watching the film. 2. Analysis of Film audience's innate structureWhy do we have different selective structures? Why people have different points of view towards the same film? According to acceptive aesthetics, the reason is that every one can be influenced by a kind of innate structure consciously or unconsciously. 1) Time factor in innate structure When time factor is closely related with the innate structure, we will unavoidably influenced by it when we select, appreciate and comment on a specific film. 2) Knowledge accumulation in innate structure Because of their different artistic background, audiences will have separate understanding and acceptability towards the popular art. 3) Individual psychology in innate structure Different individual psychological makings decide that people have different psychological functions, which influence their mental direction and focus on a distinct image. 4) Cultural factors in innate structure Cultural factors in innate structuretowards individual image's understanding is only a kind of hypothetical idea. People are brought up in different cultures and sense of culture has been deeply rooted in p...
