Part One expounds its theoretical innovations and document values. Part Two discusses its limitations and revises some part of its views and the documents cited in the book.Theoretical innovations and document values of Tang Sheng Shi: Tang Sheng Shi demonstrates a new aspect of the forming of Tang Poetry with many unquestionable facts. It deepens our understanding of Tang poetry and provides sound explanations for the characteristics of Tang Poetry. By giving a detailed account of the evolution of Chinese classical poetry as a musical genre, it is a breakthrough not only in the study of Tang poetry but also in the study of musical genres.Theoretical limitations of Tang Sheng Shi: firstly , the point that Sheng Shi only exist in Tang dynasty distorts the reality. Secondly, it puts forward "modern style" as the only criterion of Sheng Shi, which does not reflect the true picture of Sheng Shi. Thirdly, limited by class analysis,it concludes that Sheng Shi belongs to popular music and ignores the fact that some poem-lyrics which origins as popular music later becomes refined music. Moreover, the definitions and crterion of Sheng Shi is strict but it didn't carry out rearly.The redaction of literature to Tang Sheng Shi: to make sure specific book, volume and page of literature,to correct errors of character and oversight,to affirm what ithave revised.
