The movement of urbanization in the world had just come after the time when human beings entered into the industry society, and it was a direct product of society economic development. It happened as a gradual process or a sudden change through the countryside regions had gradually turned into the urban ones. It was an inevitable outcome to the development of society productive forces and production relations. Themovement firstly took place in England in the sixties of the 18 century, then it quickly expanded to Europe and the U.S. Up to the end of the 19th century and the beginning of 20th century, urbanization expanded to China and other countries. However, urbanization in the eastern part of Fengtian, which locates in Northeast frontier is later than south-east coastal areas, but it quickly became one of the most urbanized areas in China. For this reason, the thesis tries to analyze the impetus and characteristics of urbanization in the former area from three dimensions: region urbanization's brew, region urbanization's start and the urbanization initial develop, then reveals the phenomenon of its develop late but rise rapidly, so as to provide historical lessons for contemporary Chinese urbanization.Part One: Region urbanization's brew. It explains the internal connection of reclaiming uncultivated land, immigrant and the set up of county, the material sources, population and urban space carrier preparation processes, which were needed to the urbanization start in the eastern part of Fengtian.Part Two: Region urbanization's start. The thesis analyzes the impetus of urbanization, from the relationship of modern transportation net and modern market system with the start of urbanization.Part Three: The characteristics of urbanization initial develop. Thethesis analyzes the characteristics, from four dimensions: the change of urban function, the increase of urban number, the change appearance of urban space distribution and urban culture popularizing and secularizing.Conclusion: During the period of late Qing and early Republic, the urbanization start of the eastern part of Fengtian is later than the western and middle part. It starts at the same time or a little earlier than the southern and northern parts. The cause of it lies in the combination of transportation modernization and commerce modernization, which is the same to the other areas in the province. The mutual effect of industry modernization and commerce modernization starts the urbanization process of the Southeast coastal cities. The urbanization start of the eastern part of Fengtian is later than the first opened areas. However, the mutual effect of internal and external forces rapidly promotes the area to be one of the most urbanized areas, but the level of single city's modernization is lower than the urbanization level of south-east coastal cities in China.
