Zhu Guangqian once said that he was "an idealist juse like Nietzsche" when he was 85. As a matter of fact, there exist both differences and similarities between Zhu Guangqian and Nietzsche in terms of tragic aesthetics. It could be summarized as the followings: horizontally, the specific contents of their tragic aesthetics have both differences and similarities ; vertically, Nietzsche, together with Croce, Marx and Vico had major influences on tragic aesthetics of Zhu Guangqian about its coming into being, forming, evolving and development. On the other hand, based on traditional Chinese Confucian aesthetics, Zhu Guangqian made not only absorptions but adaptations to Nietzsche tragic aesthetics and thus established a unique tragic aesthetics systyem. Being the only intellectual system in modern Chinese history of tragic aesthetics, Zhu Guangqian's approach of tragic aesthetics is prominent in achievement and has left important academic experience after the combination of Confusianism with the ideas of Nietzsche, Marx and Vico. To be honest , we can see the historic limitations and scholar regrets of Zhu Guangqian with regard to his scholarly pursuit. We should attach muchimportance to these aspects.
