Republic China (1912~1949) is described as Pirate Republic and the World's Number One Bandit Country. Inundant bandits becomes a seriously society problem. Research on it has begun, while there will be much research to do, especially on bandit chiefs and their gangs.Liu Guitang, who engaged in banditry living in 1915 and operated on the base of Southern Shandong, successively fled hither and thither to more than ten provinces in North China. Liu's bang robbed,plundered and slaughtered far and near, did manner of evil in his career for 29 years. In the political and martial arena of Republic, Liu shuttled back and forth in assorted warlords as well as Japanese jingoism,which gave comprehensive impact on Republic society. Liu became an infrequence bandit chief owing to his expand territory, mass banditti,profound society infection and lasting banditry. Liu Guitang is a representative subject on the bandits in Republic.The thesis, which based on materials and introduced some means of history, sociology,psychology and the like, has discussed the background of banditry in Southern Shandong, Liu's unique banditry career, the interior and exterior connection of Liu's bang. In conclusion, the thesis summarizes Liu's thumbprint and their commonness according to the other bandit chiefs.
