This paper makes description and interpretation of selective relation of combination of monosyllable adjectives and nouns from the perspectives of syntax, semantics and pragmatics, which are based on corpus of Modern Chinese, in order to provide applicable research production of linguistic theory. There are five chapters in this paper.Chapter one is an introduction, it gives the research background and purpose, and explains the research scope of this paper.Chapter two discusses typical character of monosyllable adjectives of Modern Chinese, and gives an example of twelve typical monosyllable adjectives, and analyses carefully the multi-gradation and non-gradation of different meaning-item, and gives a discussion from symmetry and transformation of sentence pattern.Chapter three makes a description of noun phrases which are modified by multi-gradual meaning-item and non-gradual meaning-item of twelve typical monosyllable adjectives, and analyses noun phrases which are not modified by monosyllable adjectives.Chapter four discusses selective mechanism of monosyllable adjectives and noun phrases from the perspectives of syntax,semantics and pragmatics.Chapter five is further discussion, discussing simply two problems about lexicalized degree of the combination of monosyllable adjectives and nouns and bleaching process of meaning of adjectives "da(big)/xiao(small)".
