Based on closed corpus analysis, this thesis demonstrates descriptive analysis as the main part.In addition, quantitative analysis is also used based on the quality analysis. These methods are implemented to investigate the features of "ABB adjectives + verbal words" structures in syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. In syntax, the internal combination rules and external syntactic functions of "ABB adjectives + verbal words" structures are discussed.Firstly, the internal combination rules are introduced.According to the analysis on a corpus, only a part of ABB adjective members can be matched with verbal words.Among the ABB adjective structures that can be combined, nominal and verbal ABB members tend to combine with disyllabic verbs, while adjective ABB members are more likely to combine with monosyllabic verbal phrases. In addition, all three types of ABB adjectives tend to be combined with verbal phrases. The modified verbal phrases are rather abundant, for instance, the combinations with phrases of verb-object,adverbial-verb,paratactic predicates, and head-complement are common, and the matching with phrases such as concurrent and combined phrases are relatively rare.Secondly, the external syntactic function is demonstrated. The "ABB-style adjective + verbal word" structures mainly act as a predicate and head in the sentence.Besides, they can also act as objects and attributives.Under some circumstances, they are used as subjects and complements, however, the number of these circumstances is extremely limited compared to the number of former circumstances. In semantics, the semantic orientation of ABB adjectives of various properties in "ABB adjectives + verbal words" structures.First of all,the semantic same-referent and different-referent of different types of ABB adjectives are examined in the predicate position.Nominal and adjective ABB members can point to subject, predicate, and object, however, verbal ABB members cannot point to object.Furthermore, there are only semantic single-referent phenomena in the subject and complement, while categories of semantic orientations are more diverse at other syntactic positions. In pragmatics, the distribution of sentence types when "ABB adjectives + verbal words" structures are used as predicates(head)or an independent clause. In terms of overall quantity distribution,ABB adjective structures appear mostly in declarative sentences, while interrogative sentences are the second, exclamatory sentences the third, imperative sentences the least. However, the distribution of the three types of "ABB adjectives + verbal words" structure isdifferent. To be more specific, for declarative sentences, the verbal ABB structures are mostly distributed in positive sentences instead of negative sentences. For interrogative sentences, nominal ABB structures are distributed in yes-no,special indicative, alternative questions, etc.,while verbal and adjective ABB structures are distributed yes-no,special indicative and A-not-A questions. For imperative sentences, all three types of ABB adjective structures appear when expressing command and dissuasion tone, and only verbal and adjective ABB structures appear when expressing request and discouragement. For exclamatory sentences, there are more cases using verbal ABB structures to express astonishment and surprise while nominal and adjective ABB structures are seldom used. When expressing disgust, anger, and dissatisfaction, all three types of ABB adjective structures appear in positive sentences. In contrast, there are only cases that use nominal and adjective ABB structures in negative sentences.
