Fear is one of the strongest and original sentiments of mankind. At all times and in all countries, there are many literary works about fear or terror. Why can fear firmly grasp writers and readers ' heart? Which types of fear do the modern people take great interest in? What aesthetic significance do the works on fear written by modern Chinese writers possess on earth? Attracted by these problems, the writer tries to comb the various literary phenomena by making details in reading.Touching fear has two implications in this thesis, On the one hand, it is can be regarded as one of the ways in which modern writers seek the weakest place in the soul and humanity. On the other hand, it is the starting point of this dissertation to see through the phenomena of modern Chinese literary. The author try . to bypass the external modes of interpretation such as social significance, ideological quality to get into the inner spiritual world of the works directly from concrete reading experience. When going through the extremely nervous and dreadful nightmare during the lifetime with the modern Chinese writers and characters in their works together, and appreciating the vehemently aesthetic beauty as a catharsis of pity and fear, we can also pursue the mysteries of humanity in the unique circumstance and pursue the course of modernization of literature.This article is made up of seven parts.The introduction gives some information of explanatory noteson the title, the aim to writing and concerning research situation. In the main port of the thesis, from the first to the fourth chapter, it focuses on four typical patterns of fear, of which the writer has deeply perceptual identification and thought. (1) tearing off the mask of family dread which is closely related with paternalism, the human relationship and principle of the feudal society and then to hold the narrative evolutions of family avenge tale. (2) listening attentively to the female's words talking about women's painful life and terrible experience in the sexless culture system; touching the fear and sorrow of taking their revenge on the same sex, that is internecine feud. (3) facing the inevitable fear of death and the sexual urge are in tangled with death, attempting to find out the secret of life and human being by perpetually looking for. (4) feeling the or iginal s in terror from which mankind who has been driven out of the heaven making great efforts to atone his crime to achieve eternal quiet. On the base of these, the fifth section inquires into aesthetic sense of description of fear in modern literature by comparing Chinese and foreign works and a 1 lying fear with aesthetic perception of tragedy. Moreover, it involves the lost of "fear for fear's sake". At last, it emphasizes the methodological meanings of interpretation from experience, as well as sums up the paper.
