Fear is a kind of spiritual phenomenon both ancient and modern, both familiar and alien. Philosophers and poets either focused on studies of fear, or avoided it. Concerning the interpretations of fear from philosophers and poets throughout the history of Western literature and culture, we can see that in the process of building the human cognitive order to overcome the original cosmic fear, humans came to discover and define the inner otherness as well as produce a new kind of fear. Changes in the courses of fear mechanism is shown clearly by, both as an ancient social role and as a literary image of witches. By examing literary images of witches throughout the ancient philosophers at different times, by analyzing the interpretations of fear, from different perspectives, we will commence a multi-dimensional perspective of fear, which will allow us a better understanding of the fear as one of the original emotions of human-beings and a better understanding of ourselves. In this paper, by tracing back to poetry of the ancient Greek and multiplying the interpretational angles and illustrating our ideas by literal images of witches, we expect to give a multi-dimensional analysis of the Western "interpretation of fear".This paper is divided into an three parts; introduction, body and conclusion.
