Thai Chinese Written Language Vocabulary Variation

Overseas Chinese tend to refer to the Chinese language they use as "huayu". The difference between "huayu" and Chinese language does not only reside in how people call them, but also in phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, style, etc., among which the most significant one is vocabulary, as it is a direct reflection of a society. Studies in the vocabularies have been conducted more in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore than in Thailand. Starting from the form, signification, flavor, and usage, we analyze the differentce between the vocabulary of Thai "huayu" and Chinese, and analyse elements that affect the variation of the vocabulary of Thai "huayu". The analysis shows there are three types of differences between them, they are same substance and different forms, same form and different substance, the words equivalent to Chinese. Dilects, ancient Chinese and relatively formal words of "guoyu" times(the period of the national language of china from the beginning of 1900 to 1940's), foreign words, words made up by local people and the words from other Chinese communities affect the variation. In addition, the close connection between Thai "huayu" vocabulary and Thai society is discussed in the following four scenarios when the language is used: royal court, religion, community, and traditions. Finally, we arrive at the conclusion that Thai "huayu" vocabulary is unique and compatible.
