After long-term tights of ethnic minorities against discrimination and segregation, the United States had made a great progress in improving ethnic relations since 1960s, and the ethnic minorities had obtained some rights such as opportunities of employment and social benefits. Especially after the Cold War, American ethnic tensions intensified and became complicated because of White Conciliarism and Right trend, incidents of discrimination against minorities happened in succession; wealth increased but poverty deepened and the gap between the rich and the poor among ethnic groups widened increasingly; conflicts subsisted between diversities and the Nation as a whole; September 11 Affair-a new issue croped America unexpectedly. The thesis generalized these problems with many facts and datas. Despite all of these problems, objectively speaking, the Unites States is a relatively steady and harmonious nation with excessive and multifarious ethnic groups all the same. The thesis analyzed this point from three factors: the federal system of American government, geographical distribution and the ethnic policy.Besides, with the development of globalization, the ethnic issues will be influenced by it inevitably.
