As we speak of the piano music of the Baroque period, much concerns have be given to Bach and Handel from Germany, or Couperin and Rameau from France. But we did attach little importance to Domenico Scarlatti from Italy. Comparing with Bach as the summation and the milestone of the Baroque period, creative characteristics presented by Domenico Scarlatti's more than 500 harpsichord sonatas have such significance as to have exploited the pre-classical period. The research of these harpsichord sonatas is favorable for us to grasp the evolution from the Baroque to Classicism in piano music style, and the ideas and novel techniques in these sonatas greatly influenced this style of the later ages, especially the Spain nationalist piano music of the 19th century. This thesis tries to excavate the source of the refreshing musical features of these sonatas from the aspects of society and folk custom, which shows the important meaning of folk musical contents during the history of the piano development ignored by the historians for a longtime. So we can find out these features' inspiring significance for the later ages, especially for the modern piano development.
