To develop an instrument for measuring life stress in college students, the Life Stress Rating Scale for College students (LSRS) was developed and its reliability and validity were examined, and the norm was established. The items of LSRS were taken from SRRS for college students, The Hassle's Scale ,and the investigation to the students and the teachers in Shang Hai Teachers University. The results show that LSRS has good reliability ,the Cronbach Alpha coefficient is 0.86,and the test-retest relibility is 0.90.We choose Distress Symptom Scale (DSS) , SCL-90,Strait Anxiety Scale,Self-appraised Dump Scale as validity criterion, and the results show that LSRS has good validity, the correlations with these scales are 0.59,0.63,0.51,0.70 respectively. When LSRS and DSS were applied to do the investigation. It was found that the correlation between bad life events and DSS was higher than good life events, and the correlations were all positive. The correlation between daily hassles and DSS was higher than life events ,but the difference was not significant .In conclusion, the results of the research was helpful to the work to mental health of the college students .
