Ancient Chinese Lacquer Painted Portraits Examples Of Techniques Research And Analysis

Chinese lacquer art has a long history. Lacquer painting is the important branch of Chinese lacquer art. Figure is one of the major subjects of lacquer painting. Ancient lacquer figure painting had abundant subjects and varied models. Color, craft and technique were unique, and aesthetic feeling could not be achieved by other Chinese printing forms. However, studies of ancient lacquer figure painting are rare so far in China because the existent ancient lacquer figure paintings are few and scattered distribution. The representative lacquer figure painting works of different periods were carefully selected and systematically analysed from figure model, color scheme and technique aspects, which also considered the affection of politics, economy, culture and other Chinese printing forms of different periods. The main purpose of this article is to uncover the skills and progression of ancient lacquer figure painting and to improve understanding of lacquer figure painting and its unique style.
