As In The Painting Bear The Shadow Of The Ideographic Role

My thesis focuses on the visual functions of shadows, especially on the evolvement of their functions and representational features in different historical times. I will explore classic examples such as De Vinci, Caravaggio, Rembrandt as well as Munch and De chirico, Through these case studies I intend to discuss how shadows have developed from a formulaic method into a self-expression and a visual delivery of one mental state. My graduation show also concentrates on the function of shadows in the context of two-dimensional image-making, especially in the context of lithograph-making.
