The theory of "Soul Communication", raised by Gu Kaizhi in Dongjin Dynasty, was the earliest and a mostly comprehensive theory in painting. As touched the artistic law, it gives a deep great impact upon the Chinese painting history. From the scope of portrait, landscape painting, to flowers & birds painting, and so on, its development drives Chinese painting running forward all through the ages, and hereby motivated a formation of Chinese painting's unique style. Even now, it possesses a meaning of major importance all the same.Accordingly, in the first section of this paper, a brief introduction about the history of "Soul Communication" theory's succession and development is given; while the second section divides into three parts, i.e. "My Viewpoint about the Relationship between Figure and Soul", "Brushwork and Soul Communication", and "Soul of Painters", where 1 give a new discussion about the issue on "Soul Communication" theory development.In all, this article's purpose aims to rebuild, during the process of multiplicity in modern painting's development, the theory of "Soul Communication".
