Simmel's view on'The image of modern people"is very important thoughts of his theories of modernity. I attempt to begin my research with this topic which has been neglected by many critics. The article, through phenomeological method, describles the realistic sence of metropolitan life from multi-perspectives in the work of Simmel. which kind of modern experience did the modern people has when they faced the cultural, economic and social contructure net in daily life? What part did the money culture play on influencing the complextity and ambiguity of their modern experience? And how did it reflect the paradox of personality and disposition of modern pepole? The introduction s the importance of "The image of modern people"and its interpretation to the question of modernity. What is more, Simmel's view on'The image of modern people"give us new possibility to expend the current research on his work. The article aims at making it clear that his essential thoughts rooted from his life philosophy and metaphysical pathos: in the modern society, the dilemma of modernity,in the final analysis, can be summed up as the dilemma of The modern people. The text is composed of five chapters. The former four chapters shows complicated modern experience of The modem people, such as meet by chance in city","agoraphobia","blase attitue","ascetic poverty'V'fin de siecle"in the work of Simmel. According to four group fragments of modernity: the relationship of modern individual and city", of "modern individual and others", of "modern individual and material",and of "modern individual and ego", the image of modern people has been demonstrated from different perspectives. We can draw a general conclusion that both the modern life existence and modern individual sense are becoming torn into pieces, but modern man have to bear this eteral pessimistic fate alone. The last chapter gives a compact comparision of different image of The modern people"in the work of Simmel,Scheler and Baudelaire. The article tries to find out which modern attitude Simmel had when he disscussed the question of modernity, and which standpoint of modernity Simmel held when he disscussed the question about modern individual. The conclusion analyses why Simmel, as a modern individual, had an uniqe pessimistic-quietistic aesthetism and fatalism when he thought of the double dilemmas of modernity and modern people?...
