| Self-consistency is a self-motivation that inspire individuals seeking the social evaluation consistent with self-evaluation to enhance prediction and control-feeling. Self-consistency shows the stability of self-concept, while self-concept is the core of personality. This paper gives a general introduction of the self-consistency theory and a literature overview on relevant experimental studies. Because of the scarce of evidence from developmental perspective in the field, A cross-sectional study was conducted to explore the development of self-consistency in childhood and adelesenthood. Since the stability of self-concept can be indexed by the consistency of pre- and post- feedback, Self-description questionnaire and emanative thinking test were administered to 153 participants from grade 2 to 8 who were grouped by sex and self-esteem. Two weeks later, these participants were given to negative or positive feedback , and completed the same self-description questionnaire and a self-evaluation consistency questionnaire. The results are following.a. Academic self-description keeps stable during 5- and 6-grade. it promotes obviously during 7 grade, self-consistency develops slowly from 2 to 7 grade, and rises remarkably during 8 grade.b. The interraction of grade and gender has significant effect on self-consdistency, Girl students develops 1 year earlier and higher than boy students at 7 grade, self-concept enhances at grade 2 and 7, keeps stable during grade 5 , 6 and 8.c. Self-consistency of negative feedback develops over positive feedback, under negative feedback, Self-consistency promotes by grade, under positive feedback, self-concept enhances.d. The consistency and stability of high self-view is high, The consistency of high self-viewer rises during 2, 3grade, but grade7 of low self-viewr. Low grades of high self-viewer are easy to promote his self-view.e. High esteem is the same to high self-view, and low esteem is the same to low self-view... |
