Chinese and German belong to two different language families: one belongs to Sino-Tibetan Family, the other Indo-European Family. But both of the Chinese grammar scholars and the German grammar scholars have deeply studied their native languages in the frame of valence theory and have gained some achievements. So the contrastive studies of Chinese verbs and German verbs have a theoretic fulcrum梩he valence theory. This article contrasts and analyses Yuan Yulins research on Chinese verbal valence and Engel/Schumachers research on German verbal valence, because they have the same research aims and applied fields, the similar understandings of valence character and the standard of defining the verbal valences.As an applied microresearch, this article focuses the analysis on the valences similarities and differences of some frequently used verbs in both languages. It regards Chinese verb as the contrastive starting point, analyses the corresponding valence relationship of the Chinese verbs and those German verbs, which have the same or similar semantic meanings as the Chinese verbs. Such a one-way contrast can be conducted only on their syntactic structure.160 verbs are contrasted in this article, which appear frequently in the materials of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and are relatively thoroughly studied by Yuan Yulin and Engel/Schuhmacher. Although I have summed up some corresponding rules between Chinese verbal valences and German verbal valences, it' s still infeasible, to make out a system of these rules, because not like German, we cannot conclude the general Chinese syntactic-semantic structure model. In order to help the students from German region have a better command of Chinese verbal usage, we should intensify the contrastive valence teaching of each concrete Chinese verb and its corresponding German verb.
