This thesis analyzes the language structure and naming type of the names of the villages in southwest Shandong province, in the perspective of social linguistics and district studies, and concludes the characteristics of the geographical distribution of the names through data statistics, and finally summarizes the natural and anthropologic background where the names originate from.This thesis is consisted of six parts. Part One: Preliminary remarks. Part One describes the concept of place name and characteristics then gives a general retrospection on the development and present situation of the linguistic studies of place names and Chinese place names and also discusses the research method of Chinese place names. Finally, this part expounds the research scope, aim, meaning and process of this thesis. Part Two: The structural analysis of the names of the villages in southwest Shandong province. This part sums up the syllable structure form and morpheme construction way of the names of the villages in southwest Shandong province, and holds that these names generally conform to the word-building laws of Chinese place names. Meanwhile, this part projects a pilot belief that there exists geographical difference between these names. Part Three: The naming method and type analysis of the names of the villages in southwest Shandong province. Due to the special formation causes and the geographical locations, the village names have their own characteristics compared with the place names in general sense. The names of the villages in southwest Shandong province can be grouped into five types such as natural landform, through the angle of nomenclature. Part Four: The geographical distribution of the names of the villages in southwest Shandong province. The names of the villages in southwest Shandong province take on the characteristics of geographical distribution, through the statistical analysis of clustering analysis, which is to explain and summarize the distribution characteristics of the names of the villages in southwest Shandong province through quantitative and qualitative analysis. Part Five: The names of the villages in southwest Shandong province and the natural and anthropologic environment. The southwest Shandong province possesses a special location, which enjoys a rich natural and geographic environment and a complicated and profound anthropologic background, which are all perfectly represented by the names of the villages in southwest Shandong province. Part Six: Conclusion. The names of the villages in southwest Shandong province, on one hand, conforms to the structural characteristics and naming laws of common place names, and on the other hand, present distinctive time and geographic features, which is a comprehensive representation of the long history and the complicated social background. |
