Yangshao Culture, which is a famous archaeological culture in China, has been playing an important role in the study of Chinese prehistory and prehistoric archaeology. Therefore the further research of it is assumed with great academic value. Although more than 80 years past since the discovery and nomination of Yangshao Culture in 1920s and much deals of achievements have got by archaeologists, there're still many problems remains. For example, how Yangshao Culture evolutions step by step and gradually expanded its territories in the transition form early to middle stage, and what is the real history process that mentioned above is not clear. In this article, the author tries to make some useful assumptions about this problem, depending on the new archaeological data from the excavation of Yuanzitou She, which is mainly carried out by the Institute of Archaeology Research in Shanxi Province in the earlier of 1990s. The largest part of material remains in Yuanzitou Site belong to Yangshao Culture, with all four stages so far as we known about Yangshao Culture. Thus, based on these important materials, the archaeological research can push forward. This article can be divided into four parts. In preface, the author firstly makes a concrete definition about Yangshao Culture according to his study, then gets a brief review of the research history, finely introduces the theories aad methods of his research in the following chapters. In chapter 2, based on the Stratigraphy and Typology research and the coexistence of deferent types of potteries, the author makes a clear chronology of the material remains and detailed explanation of the phases, attributes and culture meanings about the potteries belonging to each period. Chapter 3 focus on the new uncovered remains, which can be defined between Period Shijia and Miaodigou of Yangshao Culture. The details of the attribute and territory of this kind of remains have been described compared with other archaeological remains with the same time and type in this chapter. In the last Chapter, the author makes conclusions that the transition of Yangshao Culture form early to middle stage is a result of complex process of phased evolution and territories expansion of deferent kinds of archaeological cultures such as the material remains found in phase III of Yangzitou site, and the corresponding phases in Dongzhuangcun site and Wangmushan site.
