Professor ChenYingque presented a series of new viewpoints on Zhulinqixian (Seven Sages in the Bamboo Grove). According to YuLiang's words in Zhulinqixianlun ( the Discusses on Seven Sages in the Bamboo Grove ), Professor Chen thought the fact that WangRong, JiKang and RuanJi had drunk in HuangGong Groggery was untrue; WangRong had not taken part in Zhulinzhiyou (the Stroll in the Bamboo Grove); The Zhulin (the Bamboo Grove) were not existent. According to XieAn's words in Shishuoxinyu ( New Anecdotes of Social Talk ) , Professor Chen thought the content of YuanHong's Mingshizhuan ( Biographies of Personages ) was resourced by XieAn and those were XieAn's joking words. But, by seeing about the political circumstances in the Eastern Jin Dynasty and considering the conflicts between WangDao and YuLiang, I think that Professor Chen's new points were not right. I think the fact that WangRong, JiKang and RuanJi drank in HuangGong Groggery had really happened; WangRong had taken part in Zhulinzhiyou; the Bamboo Grove was really existent. By researching, I think that the name of Seven Sages in the Bamboo Grove was not created by XieAn. Professor Chen's viewpoint that the meaning of Bamboo Grove was rooted in Buddhism and influenced by the ethos of Koyi that prevailed in the later period of Western Jin Dynasty was disputed by researchers. Some of them did not agree with him. They thought that the meaning of Bamboo Grove was not related with the ethos of Koyi. So, I offer some new proofs to support their opinions.
