Wu Sugong was an important scholar, historian and writer who was also one of the people who cherished the Ming dynasty in the South of the Yangtze River at the turning of the Ming and Qing dynasties. He was very erudite at history and laid much stress on the historic experience. The Confucianism was his main research subject. He paid much attention to the common people' s sufferings and severely accused the corrupt practice of the society. Standing fast at the post of the people who cherished the pre-dynasty, he never forgot to restore the dethroned Ming dynasty' s monarch, and devoted himself to the writing and academic research work. He never stopped writing and wrote lots of works. In his works, the unswervingly loyal people and their achievements at the turning point of the Ming and Qing dynasties were honestly recorded. He commemorated the martyrs and highly commended the able and virtuous who had passed away. The people who cherished the Ming dynasty were also praised in his works while the wicked were denounced. So Wu Sugong' s works had important historic values and expressed his spirits of patriotism. In general, Wu Sugong' s works was the valuable reference documents for researchers who studied the history of the turning of the Ming and Qing dynasties. In the thesis, I discussed the whole life and the family origin of Wu Sugong, classified his works, observed his friends and teachers and studied his academic ideology. By means of doing all these, I investigated the special living conditions and ideology of the people who cherished the Ming dynasty, and inspected how the living conditions and ideology affected their writings.
