Henan Northern Song Dynasty Tomb Murals Analysis Theory

The fresco tomb of Northen Song (北宋) is one of important archaeological harvest since the establishment of new China. It not only has great significance in studying social lives, economic condition and funeral custom of Northen Song, but also provides new important information statistics to the study of architecture and painting arts at that time. Based on Henan province, the article makes a regional form classification and discussion of the fresco tombs of Northen Song according to the statistics of those that were found or excavated up to now.Based on the rev i ew of prev i ous d i scover i es and study of fresco tomb, the article summarizes the current situation of that of Northen Song' s fresco tombs, and then systematically classifies about 30 fresco tombs discovered in Henan by time and form. According to varieties of chambers' form the tombs can be c I ass i f i ed i nto square, c i rcu I ar and many-s i ded ones. Based on form classification, moreover, comprehensively considering the structure of tomb chamber, the colourful paintings of architecture, the content of fresco and the varieties of grave goods, the article divides them into prophase and anaphase. The prophase can be further divided into original phase and development phase and the anaphase can be further divided into two phases of prosperity and transformation and so .there are two big phases and four small phases. The article expl icates the basic characteristics of each phases and after that, referring to the original thought and social background in which the fresco tomb appeared, the article makes an introductory discussion.Based on and besides above- mentioned work, the article makes an analysis and discussion about the art achievements of the fresco tomb. The art achievements can be embodied on two aspects of painting and architecture. Of painting, the kinds are complete, the material is various, the contents are plentiful, the arrangement is rational, the designing is clever, the methods are diversified, the architectural ski I I is advanced, the decoration is magnificent and out of their own understanding, the host of the tomb arranged the architecture and fresco skilfully and combined the two arts to reflect special mode and thought of funeral and i nst ituted the speci a I funeral culture of Northen Song that had a long and deep influence.At last, the article reviews the value of Northen Song' s fresco tomb and discusses the important s i gn i f i cance of the fresco tomb i n Li Vi I I age, Shisi Town, Xinan County (新安石寺李村) for it's engraving that supplements the pa int hi story . In addition, according to grave goods, etc, The author makes a preliminary identity recognition of the host of these tombs.
