The Funing Dialect Research

Investigation on Funing DialectFuning is located in the northern part of Yanfu Plain, Jiangsu Province, whose dialect is attributed to Jianghui dialect Area. With the immigration of Susong people in the period of early Ming Dynasty, Funing dialect intervenes with Wu Dialect, to some extent. In the past decades, little attention has ever been paid to it.Based on the field work, the paper gives a full description of Funing dialect. The paper constructs the phonological system. It makes a list of its specials of phonological system, the collocation of initial consonants and vowels, and its homophones. The paper pays special attention to its daily used vocabulary. Characteristic vocabulary is extracted, attached by pronunciation and meaning description. Some part of the data is given for the purpose of supplying references for other researchers and further study.
