Characteristics Of Two-year-old Children To Delay Gratification And Its Related Factors

Delay-of-gratification was the key composition and the most important ability of self-control.It was also the important ingredient of socialization and emotional regulation. Theoretical valueand practical significance were found. The purpose of the study was to examine the 2-year-oldchildren's characteristics of delay-of-gratification, and the relation between delay-of-gratificationand parenting styles, personality, and attachment. Some meaningful basis could be provided toeducate children.2-year-old children already had some ability of delay-of-gratification and they also had beenable to use some kind of delay strategies. Maybe the using was unconscious. There weresignificant difference between the children who waited for more than two minutes and the childrenwho waited for less than two minutes. Such as children'waiting time, looking for mother'scomfort and help, private speech, toward the attractive object, and distraction. There are nosignificant difference between boys and girls. For example, time and delay strategies.Mothers'obedience was associated positively with children'waiting time(food). It werefound that mothers'acceptance and mothers'encouragement of achievement could significantpredict children'waiting time(food). Mothers'acceptance and mothers'induction were associatednegatively with private speech. Mothers'rejection was associated positively with private speechand toward the attractive object. Mothers'obedience was associated positively with toward theattractive object and private speech. It was found that mothers'acceptance could predict privatespeech and mothers'obedience could predict toward the attractive object. Fathers'acceptance wasassociated negatively with problem-solving.Children'waiting time(food)was associated negatively with children'adaptability. Children'persistence was associated positively with distraction. The strength of response was associatedpositively with problem-solving. Threshold was associated negatively with looking for mothers'comfort and help.Looking for mothers'comfort and help was associated positively with mother-childattachment.There are significant difference between task one and task two. Maybe the two differentparadims of delay-of-gratification experimental research and tired effect were the reasons. Weshould do more research to examine whether there are difference between different attractiveobjects.
