There are two usages of predicative "shang"in modernChinese.One of it can serve as a predication alone, the other succeeds the verband constitute a component of a sentence. When it is used as a apred-apredication alone, "shang"expresses "move, upwards move or hor-izontal move", whereas the usage and the meaning of the other arevery complicated. The study of the "shang", succeeding the verb, canhelp clarify the internal relationship and the difference in characterand meaning between the two usage. At the same time, it can provideuseful references for the coalescent of other appulsive word and verb.The thesis begins with the discussion of the origin and evolu-tion of the predicative "shang". Furthurmore, the law of the structurein "V+shang"in the method of grammaticalization from the diachr-onical angle is explored, followed by the analysis of the developmentprocess from lexical meaning to grammatical meaning in "V+shang"structure by applying the theory of grammaticalization and cognitivegrammar. Based on the above finding, the meaning and character ofthe synatax embodying the "V+shang"structure is analyzed beforesummarizing the character and the meaning of the "shang"in thestructure "V+shang"in the end. Based on the previous results, thedissertation further enriches the knowledge of "V+shang".
