Mongolian Commonly Used Terms Semantic Study

The study on the semantic meaning of Mongol words has a long history. Totally it is carried out in three stages: Dictionary of Translation, Traditional Research on Semantics, and Modern Semantics, and has gained certain achievements. However, the research has not been carried out thoroughly in some ways, and even not involved in some fields.The study on the Modern Mongol semantics extends the field of research from lexical meaning to various basic factors such as sememe. Though Semantic construction can be analyzed at different ways through the application of sememe analysis and semantic field theory, it could only be limited to the general research. However, it has few achievements to special research of concrete word classes, and is only limited to some relative nouns and antonyms which are easy to analyze and with distinctive semantic features.In view of this case, the author statistics 1400 words of "Commonly Used Mongol Nouns" ( Erden, Gerelema, 1990), tries to analyze them by means of sememe analysis method and semantic field method, makes clear the semantic constructions of nouns, and concludes the sememe combination features of nouns through applying synchronic descriptive method. It includes sememe combination, semantic classification, and sememe analysis of commonly used Mongol nouns.The Preface introduces a general survey on the semantics of Mongol language, elaborates the purpose and meaning of the theme and the reason of choosing the information etc.Chapter one classifies commonly used Mongol nouns according to semantic field theory and lays a foundation for the study of Sememe analysis and Sememe combination. It can be discussed from these aspects of theoretical guidance, purpose and principle of semantic classification of the nouns.Chapter Two puts forward the sememes of 309 words that are used most frequently according to the paraphrases of "Mongol Dictionary", analyzes their sememes, and concludes the results.Chapter Three studies the semantic features of nouns according to semanticclassification and sememe analysis method. It mainly explains the nouns by means of word combination and sentence construction.Conclusion part summarizes this text, puts forward further research direction, and brings forward the problems which are involved in this text but not studied further.
