Marxism And Traditional Chinese Culture, A Combination Of Experience And Lessons Learned

It is a complicated process that Marxism experienced collision,antagonism and integration with Chinese traditional culture during which it has propagated and developed in china for nearly 100 years. Analyzing and summing up the causes of success and failure not only will be a great help to deal with the relation between Marxism and traditional culture correctly and promote the two culture together; but also it will be a great help to build socialist advanced culture with distinct Chinese characteristics. Directed by dialectical materialism and historical materialism, and according to the principle of combining history with logic, the paper sums up two pieces of experience and three lessens of Marxism integrating with traditional culture by analyzing the process of Marxism Integrating with Chinese traditional culture and comparing foreign culture integrated with Chinese traditional culture(for example Buddhism). The whole paper can be divided into three parts. The first part tells the process of Marxism Integrating with Chinese traditional culture briefly. Marxism came to china after Wusi New Culture Movement, for which has the great character of revolutionary and scientific, It won over other ideologists at last and became the guiding ideology of the Communist Party of China. Mao Zedong put it forward that we should make Marxism integrate with Chinese traditional culture in the 1930s, but there were also some serious mistakes in the process. For example, Marxism deviated from Chinese traditional culture excessively in time of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. They integrated better after Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. The second part sums up two pieces of experience of Marxism Integrating with Chinese traditional culture :1, We should catch hold of the character of traditional culture and integrated Marxism with it , for example , Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping caught hold of the character of practice and seeking truth from facts ; paradox of Yin and Yang and dialectical thinking; exerting oneself constantly and standing on one's own; concerning about one's country and people and loving one's country and people in the Chinese traditional culture. 2,We found the same between Marxism and Chinese traditional culture. For example, the ideal society of "Datong" in the Chinese traditional culture is the same to communism. The third part analyses three lessons when Marxism Integrated with Chinese traditional culture: 1,We mistaken the dross for the essence, such as the thought of the virtue which is more important than the law and the thought of explaining and not developing. 2,We did not absorb the knowledge of natural science sufficiently. 3,Chinese traditional culture dealt with the present-day capitalist culture blindly or mechanically. We should absorb all kinds of culture to build advanced socialist culture with Chinese characteristics in the future from summing up the experience and lessons of Marxism Integrating with Chinese traditional culture.
