Popular music is defined as a genre enjoyed by the broad masses and influential far and wide in a certain period of time. Consequently, from the very beginning of its birth, it must be related with commercial operation. Drizzle, the first Chinese popular song proper was created in 1927. At the same time, quietly budding was the commercialization of the Chinese popular music. Mr. Li Jinhui, who for the first time linked popular music and commercial operation in China, was the publicly recognized father of the Chinese popular music.This paper tries, in the light of market, the law of demand and supply, the rule of competition, and the nation of management and sales, to analyze Mr. Li Jinhui's achievements in music creation, performance operation, publicity of records, carrying out star system in 1920s to 1940s. It also tries to depict the commercial process of the Chinese popular music promoted by the musician, and trace the difficulties and reasons he came across in the course.Finally, this paper voices that we, while making all-round studies of Mr. Li Jinhui, a great historical figure nowadays, should not be confined to limited ways, perspectives and methods, and ought to objectively examine the early budding of the commercialization of the Chinese popular music in current commercial times. For today's mature popular music industry is the development and continuation of its bud in the past.
