There were two kinds of constructions in Chinese painting. One of them was the Physical Construction, and the other one was the Brush Construction. In the first one, artists tried hard to show a real world in their works, and the brush was just a tool. But in the second one, artists wanted to express their emotions to the viewers rather than imitate the real world, so the brush that delivered love, hatred or grief ,etc. became the theme of their works.Since the Western painting brought into China, Chinese artists had been asking themselves what's the essence of Chinese painting. Until now, many artists are still confused facing this problem. In my opinion, no matter what kind of construction, both of them are languages to artists. So it's meaningless to argue which one is more important. In my works, I try to find out a balance between Physical and Brush Constructions, and show you what I'm thinking about modem Chinese painting.
