Since making her appearance in the literary world in 1982, Fangfang has now become a top writer among the contemporary literatus. Her writing has taken on some inimitable characteristics, which makes her different and superior in comparison with other female writers. The prominent characters represented in her works are as follows: Firstly, she is extremely interested in the ultimate problems about human being, such as existence and death. However, in her presentation, existence means nothing but pains, tortures and dissimilation. Meanwhile, death can bring happiness and peace to human mind and body. Behind this paradox lies her expectation for a better existence. Secondly, she bears a deep-implanted intellectual complex and she so continually writes about the intelligentsia that she has definitely composed a history of intellectual spiritual course. Thirdly, although tragedies are her favorite subjects, but none of her works makes the readers feel depressed. They do laugh instead. That's because of her cleverness at using black and gray humor. Fourthly, while writing an attractive novel, she makes sure that the story also contains something philosophic and enlightening. She also enhances the aesthetic tastes of her novels by adding well-composed poems. What has helped to form Fangfang's writing characteristics? Of course a lot of things combine. Yet after careful study, it can be found that her writing, whether in terms of content or shape has been considerably under the influence of her father and grandfather, which forms another character of Fangfang's creations.
