Wang Xiaobo should be deemed a uniquely significant figure in contemporary literature. In Time Trilogy, his masterpiece, the writer crossed time difference among the past, the present and the future to recount absurdities in human existence in a humorous and bantering tone, and at the same time confirmed the eternal value of wisdom, creativity and love out of romanticism and idealism. Creating a romantic, imaginative poetic world, his novels transcended absurd and heavy earthly life, revealing an infinite charm of existence. Distinct and charming, his novels are highly artistic due to his inheritance of senior poets and translators and his reference to contemporary western novelists. His novels are labeled funny as he harnessed a humorous tone for serious themes, and weaponized laughter to fight against absolute power and fatuity. His wild imagination enchanted his writings and grasped the true beauty of fiction. His pursuit of narrative rhythms and delicate structure indicated his exhaustive exploration of the format of novels. His language was clear and concise, full of poetic rhymes, and free of boundaries, thus even complimented the content of his novels. A series of brand new characters in contemporary literature were established in his novels, and an in-depth decryption was worthwhile. In Chapter One, several major themes in Wang’s novels are discussed:the mocking and reflection of the Cultural Revolution; an anti-utopian narration on the ground of the future and an alert to absolute powers prevailing in human history; sexual freedom entitled as a human being and sadism-masochism metaphors for power-intruded sex; acknowledgement of such ultimate values as wisdom and creation, an aspiration for a poetic world. In Chapter Two, Wang’s achievements in his narrative style and linguistic art in novels are explored. This is first and foremost revealed in the dark humor that marked his novels, and in laughter which made them both critical and fun at the same time. His wild imagination endowed his novels to be beautifully romantic and fictitious. Wang aimed for order and rhyme in his novel structure, and carried out a successful exploration in the format of novel. His language in novels is full of rhyme and free of boundaries. In Chapter Three, characters in Wang’s novels are examined. These characters are divided into two groups, the "WE group" and "THEY group", a resemblance of Wang’s opposition between a poetic world and the gray earthly world. The former group are heroes in his novels, such as heroes in his Wang Er series and Qingtong Shidai (The Bronze Age). They refer to the author himself and also represent the ideal human being in Wang’s opinion. Heroines in his novels distinguish themselves from ordinary feminine characters in contemporary literature, as they represented their meaning of existence and life which is once and again confirmed by Wang. The opposition group that received criticism and sarcasm, also known as the "THEY group", represented the powers trying to control others, the upholders of law and order in a gray world, and the obstacles in life.
